Noodles & Company Coming to Broad Ripple
Topic: Restaurants

I drove by the intersection of Broad Ripple Avenue and Westfield Boulevard yesterday and saw that they're installing a Noodles & Company at the former home of Mezza Luna (R.I.P.). While I agree that pasta is excellent drunk food, I'm disappointed that the space isn't being filled by an independent restaurant, such as the very good L'exporateur at 62nd and Fergusun. (Granted, it may not be fair to compare a $5 bowl of noodles to a high end French-Asian-Hoosier fusion restaurant, but there, I just did.)
I've eaten at a Noodles & Co. only once. The Bangkok Curry didn't set my hair on fire, but it was pretty tasty. And there is no better comfort food than the buttered egg noodles topped with grated parmesan. Here's the menu. Given the price and the location, I'm sure this will end up on our regular lunch rotation.

Jen, Steph, Jim and I went to Noodles & Co. in Carmel (corner of Range Line & Carmel Drive) for lunch today -- I had the "regular" bowl of the Wisconsin Mac & Cheese ($5.25) and I had them add broccoli for an extra $0.75. The elbow macaroni was perfectly cooked and in a not-too-soupy cream sauce, with extra shredded cheddar-jack cheese piled on top. Health food? No. Mental health food? Yes. Mmmm. Good cold-weather food.
The "regular" portion was so large that I gave some away -- it was more than enough for lunch. And the options here are wonderfully customizable -- you can add vegetables and cheeses of various kinds for 75 cents each, or a "protein" for $1.70 (your choice of two chicken options, two beef options, shrimp, or organic tofu).
I look forward to going back soon, and plan to try the Japanese Pan Noodles plus shrimp...

I've eaten at Noodles & Co in Carmel and was disappointed. That's probably because I'm spoiled by Nothing But Noodles. I frequent the one at the IU Med Plaza, which could also be called Pizza District as it is home to 7 (count them! 7!) pizza places.
I found NBN heads and tails about N&Co. Just me?

Plus, we got to see one of their cafe umbrellas escape from its moorings and skitter into traffic on Carmel Drive (it was retrieved without impaling either human or vehicle). I haven't been to Nothing But Noodles in a while, but I recall the pasta being a little gelatinous. We'll have to make a return trip soon. (As an aside, the name "Nothing But Noodles" makes we want to open a restaurant next door called "Mostly Meat.")

I like the pesto pasta better at Noodles & Co, but the 'regular' size plate was actually 'too small.' I'll remember to order the larger meal when we go back.
I'd have to try more dishes at both places to have a better comparison of the two. But one thing I can say; after having pad thai noodles at a Thai restaurant in Chicago, the dish at Nothing But Noodles is a sad disappointment.

Steph, I think you got the "small" plate, which I completely agree is "too small." Maybe it would be OK if one were to order a salad along with it, but alone it's not enough for a meal, IMO. (Looked tasty, though.)
We noted during lunch that the only portion size options were "small" or "regular" -- instead of "small" and "large" -- and that their choice of terms is probably wise, for people might be hesitant to order "large" where they would not hesitate to order "regular"...
