Circle City, the Crossroads of America, Naptown... whatever you call it, it's Indianapolis and it's where we live. We created this web log to write about it, so we can share the interesting, fun, quirky, tasty, ugly, or unusual aspects of the 12th largest city in the United States (take that, Jacksonville, FL).
Who the heck are we? We're glad you asked:

Hello!
As you might know, the NCAA Final Four is heading to the circle city in early April. My question to any and all Downtown Indy residents- What restaurants have a "healthy" or "heart healthy" menu?
I work for Indianapolis Downtown Inc. We are a not-for-profit organization that manages, develops and markets Downtown Indy.
We offer information on events, shopping, restaurants, hotels, attractions, landmarks, parking maps and much more. Kind of a one-stop shop for all of your Downtown questions.
We would like to compile a list of "healthy" restaurants so the basketball fans visiting Downtown can have some options.
Any comments, suggestions or research ideas are welcome!
Thanks!
Megan

Aesop's Tables at 600 Massachusetts Ave. is a really good Greek restaurant with healthy foods on the menu.
The City Market has lots of fresh foods and healthy selections, too.
We went out as a team to the Side Street Deli at 2066 N. Illinois St. last year and had some great sandwiches and salads.
And The Abbey at 825 N. Pennsylvania Ave. has some healthy food sandwich and salad selections.
Also, try the India Garden Restaurant at 143 N. Illinois Street. Great selections for vegetarians.
I don't eat out downtown as much as I'd like (I work on the northside, but live downtown). I'll shoot out a request to my neighborhood mailing list and come back with more info; they'll know.

There are also a couple of seafood-oriented restaurants with lots of heart-healthy fresh fish selections, including Oceannaire and McCormick & Schmick's. Both are elegant and fairly expensive.

This is a wonderful site for those of us who prefer local restaurants and events over all other! I thought I was so hip in discovering you, until I realized all my cultural friends already knew about you. :-)
I am a volunteer for a very cool performing arts fundraiser that is coming up this spring -- Spotlight 2006, benefiting the Indiana AIDS Fund, on April 24.
Eighteen arts orgs. and more than 100 volunteers donate their time and performances each year at Clowes Hall, and it is always an amazing sampler of the great arts in Indy.
Is there a way to entice you to come check it out this year?
(More Spotlight info. can be found at www.spotlight2006.info by the way.)

I would guess that like pro sports leagues, movie releases use TV markets to determine the largest "cities."
That makes Indy #25 (and Jacksonville #52!)

Maybe, but Neilsen's numbers don't appear to add up on that chart, either. I'm not convinced that Neilsen's polling data is correct in general. The fact that several shows have failed in Neilsen ratings and been huge successes in DVD sales indicates there's some sort of problem with Neilsen, to me. I suspect they don't adequately capture DVR data. In fact, after looking carefully at their pages on measuring techniques, that suspicious seems much more plausible

This is an amazing tool, especially since my wife and I are new to the area. This site is a great idea and I hope that it keeps going for a long time to come!!!
