Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

It's not often that you really get your money's worth from a big name rock act these days. I've waited longer, paid more and gotten less from bands too many times. Tuesday night at the Music Mill was not one of these times.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was simply fabulous. The boys in black from San Francisco last played here in... uh... hm... I think it was 2001 at The Patio. At least that's when I last saw them. And then they cancelled that one time... So needless to say, it had been a while.
You'd think that they would be touring in support of their latest disc, Baby 81, but damnit - I think they were really there for the fans. Savaging the first hour of their performance with music from the new disc, the band returned for another hour of accoustic numbers, requests and then finally earth shattering feedback before calling it a night. Pummeling drums, hypnotic riffs and the loudest bass guitar I had heard this side of Jucifer. Fantastic.
I wonder if they followed through with the autograph session promised to people who bought their disc at the show...
Opening was The Cobbs, who were ok. And then Dead Combo... who invited everyone back to their tent at the KOA campgrounds. I'll let you draw your own conclusions there.

I attended this show as well and throughly enjoyed the music. However, the whole night I had this nagging feeling that the venue was, well... too nice. The AC kept me cool, there was no smoke filling the room -it was down-right comfortable. Don't get me wrong, I loved coming home not wreaking of smoke and sweat, but that is kinda what I'd expect after a night out watching a show.
