Freecycling Revisited

I wrote a while back about FreeCycling, which are online services where you can post offers for free stuff you want to give away, or search for free stuff other people are offering. The idea is to keep useful stuff from ending up in a landfill. Indianapolis has two such groups, run through Yahoo Groups, and MSN Groups respectively. I've been a apart of the Yahoo Group for quite awhile, and have found it very useful.
This past weekend, I found new homes for stuff that under any other circumstances I would have just had hauled away to the dump. For example, I had these cement blocks from a set of cement stairs I had removed from the side of my house.
I had these bricks from an old walkway I tore out.
And I had these edgers that I didn't need for my flowerbeds.
I posted a message offering these items for free, and within 4 hours I received 25 messages from people wanting this stuff. Two days later, it was all gone; see the mostly cleaned-up area where all this crap used to sit. Those storm windows are getting posted next.
One thing that it's important to remember from the earlier post; ta really BUSY community, posting hundreds of messages a day. Either subscribe to the web-only version of the group, or be sure to filter the e-mails you'll receive out of your inbox to another folder, or you'll be overwhelmed by the traffic.
