Freedom of Religion...

... but not THAT religion.
Judge: Parents can't teach pagan beliefs
Quoting Kevin Corcoran from the Indianapolis Star:
"An Indianapolis father is appealing a Marion County judge's unusual order that prohibits him and his ex-wife from exposing their child to "non-mainstream religious beliefs and rituals."
Well that's nuts. The parents are Wiccan and neither requested a change in the childs religious upbringing during their divorce, however, the judge took it upon himself to add that little tid-bit in. Their son attends a Catholic school. Evidently the court feels that by attending the Catholic school, it will only confuse the child as he ages.
WTF?
I think we can all see where the obvious argument goes - does it matter that the child is Wiccan? What if he were of any other worldly religion? I went to a Catholic school with plenty of kids who were not Catholic. No one raised a fuss if someone was Protestan, Ba'hai or even athiest.
But yet this judge is obviously ignoring the wishes of the parents and even that whole Constitution rag we have shoved away in some corner of the government, and discriminating against this families religion.
Excuse me while I send a donation to the Indiana Civil Liberties Union.

Just saw a clip on the news a couple days ago, on WTHR. The Indiana Civil Liberties Union is filing a brief to appeal the ruling, but thats all I've seen so far. Crazy thing is a second judge ruled the same way when they took the case to a different one.

It looks like we still have freedom of religion after all.

"The Indiana Court of Appeals today upheld the rights of parents to expose their children to Wicca, a contemporary pagan religion.
In its unanimous ruling, the court declared that a Marion County judge was out of bounds in approving a divorce decree that also directed the parents to shelter their 10 year old son from non mainstream religious beliefs and rituals."
