Bosphorus Istanbul Cafe

Bosphorus Istanbul Cafe is a nice Turkish cuisine restaurant south of downtown in Fletcher Place near Lilly's. I've been twice; once this past summer with a large party for a birthday, and this weekend for a dinner for two. Both times the food was delicious, and the restaurant atmosphere was sunny and pleasant. They have lunch and dinner menus you can see online and a short wine and beer list. I'm not the greatest food critic in the world (I can't tell how a dish was prepared, or identify ingredients by the flavors), and I don't have time to write a long critique, so I'll let you judge for yourself from the photos I took. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.

Community Shred Day

Community Shred Day turned out to be quite handy for us. We had a giant box of paperwork that was taking hours to get through piece by piece. They disposed of it in ten seconds for $5. The finely-ground paper waste is pulped and recycled as cardboard and other paper products, and the $5 goes to help the Crime Stoppers organization.

There will be some other Shred Day events in the future. You can find out about them by visiting the Crime Stoppers site.

Crime Stoppers Community Shred Day – April 28

via a handy press release from Crime Stoppers:

Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana (wow, they have a really ugly site) is partnering with Shred-It and Office Depot to help citizens protect themselves from identity theft.

One of the most important things you can do to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud and identity theft is protect your personal information. Many people and small businesses have stored documents for years because they do not have the time or resources to dispose of the records that have accumulated.

On April 28th, 2007 for a tax deductible donation of $5 per bankers box, you can watch as your documents are instantly destroyed by one of the giant Shred-It high speed cross cutting machines. This is the same process many of the largest businesses in Indiana use every day to dispose of their important records. All proceeds will be donated to the Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana reward fund which is used to solve serious felony crimes throughout the Central Indiana community.

You can take advantage of this opportunity to protect your identity by bringing your old documents to one of the Community Shred Day events on April 28th, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The following Office Depot locations will host sites for the Community Shred Day:

12417 North Meridian Street, Carmel, Indiana

4200 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana

1276 US 31 North, Greenwood, Indiana

From a press release:

14th Annual Stutz Artists Studio Open House

Friday, April 27: 5:30 - 11 p.m.
Saturday, April 28: 12 Noon - 5 p.m.
At the historic Stutz Business Center, located at 10th and Capitol, downtown Indianapolis

Tickets are $12 at the door.

Each year, over 60 artists open their studio doors for one of the largest gallery opening in the state of Indiana. Originally a one-night event, the open house expanded to Saturday's in 1999 to reach a more diverse audience. Last year's attendance of 7,000 confirmed the continuing demand for and the popularity of local art.

Saturday is FAMILY DAY - all children under 16 will receive free admission when accompanied by a paid adult admission. There will be special art stations around the building geared towards children art activities.

I'm hoping to attend the event on Saturday.

Saturday night the Naptown Roller Girls, The Tornado Sirens, battled it out with Knoxville Tennesse's Hard Knox All Stars for a neck and neck, action packed bout. Skates blazed, falls were taken, fists flew and chairs were thrown in one of the most spectacular matches yet.

Rock The Vote

Indianpolis is home to one of the more entertaining party rock bands by way of The Fuglees. If you've listened to The Bob & Tom show or perhaps stopped by The Patio when it was The Patio, you may have heard such classics as "Yoko Ono" or "Crazy Girls (mp3)". The power trio knows how to crank out some rock 'n' roll while making you laugh at the same time.

In a move that I can only call unexpected, Fuglees drummer Tom Knapp is running for City Council as a Democrat for district 9. Weird, hunh? Personally I'm wondering if this is just a marketing scheme to pull in the crowds to the next Fuglees show, but Knapp has assured voters that he's willing to talk politics after pounding the skins.

For the record, I had a bear of a time finding a list of the candidates for the May primaries. IndyGov, once again, fails to provide useful and easily gained information. I eventually found an Excel file of all of the candidates on IndyGov's site, but it was being linked to from WTHR's website. Sheesh.

Rocky River Grillhouse

Rocky River Grillhouse just opened up recently in Castleton at the location where Smokey Bones Barbeque used to be, and we were in the area shopping, so we stopped in for dinner last night to check it out. Every employee who talked to us - from the hostess to the servers - was focused and attentive, which is nice when you're used to indifferent casualness from a chain restaurant.

Atrocious Apostrophe Crime

This is in one of the strip malls up in Castleton. How did no one catch this? How many people worked on that sign before it went up, and no one realized? What's sad is that they got it right on the 3 signs inside the shop, but wrong on the biggest one.
